Two tastes, one sofa. Tonic is not a couples therapist.
She wants warmth. He wants concrete. Tonic wants to know where they both put their mugs. That is where the truce begins.
TONIC / SENIOR DESIGNERA STUDIO STORY

A couple arrived with two inspiration boards. One looked like a cosy cottage. The other like a contemporary art museum car park. Tonic wagged his tail and three samples flew behind the cupboard. We called it eliminating the extremes. Then the actual conversation began.
We do not ask who has better taste.
We ask about mornings. Who gets up first, who cooks, whether guests stay overnight and where the laundry lands. “Scandinavian style” will not tell us both people use the bathroom at 7:20. That can change a design more than a favourite Instagram account.
Each client writes three essentials and three things they can give up. No peeking at their partner’s answers. Tonic filled in a sheet too: sofa, second sofa, access to first sofa. His vote did not make it into the budget.
“Warm” does not have to mean seventeen cushions.
We translate words into specifics. “Warm” might mean pleasant lighting and wood. “Minimal” might mean closed storage, not a home without possessions. “Not too expensive” needs a figure and priorities, not a reassuring nod.
We look for the shared need beneath different pictures. Often both want calm: one sees it in natural textures, the other in an empty worktop. Both can work together. There is no need to build half the living room out of concrete and the other half out of a blanket.
Voting on a lamp is not a general election.
We agree a shared budget, priorities and how decisions will be approved. We show two clear directions with the differences explained, not twelve uncommented renders. Feedback stays together with the project in arkeeno. “He hasn’t seen it yet” means the decision is still pending.
Bring answers to your next meeting: what is most annoying today; what must work in the morning; how you host guests; where storage is needed; where you want to spend more; who confirms your joint choice. Tonic also requests that loose papers be secured. His tail does not observe election silence.
