A Living Room for Humans. And the One Who Actually Rules the Couch.

Good form, a cozy bed, and fur that clearly has its own spatial planning agenda.

TONIC / SENIOR DESIGNERA STUDIO STORY

Pixelated living room with a lime sofa and a built-in dog bed

At the first meeting, the client said: the dog doesn’t go on the couch. At the second, they sent a photo of the dog on the couch. Tonic didn’t judge. He just updated the brief.

Design for Life, Not Declarations.

In our living room, the dog is a full-fledged user. They have a spot to rest near people but out of the main traffic path. A space shouldn’t only look good when it’s empty.

We ask what the home looks like on an ordinary Tuesday. Where are the toys? What needs to be moved before vacuuming? Who occupies the sunny patch of floor? The answers are often more interesting than an inspiration board.

The Dog Bed Doesn’t Have to Apologize.

We built the blue dog bed into the white cabinetry. In a real-life project, you’d need to size it, ensure access, and make it easy to clean for a specific dog. An alcove effect in a render isn’t a reason to squeeze a resident into a box that’s too small.

Next to it, we planned a spot for toys. All except that one ball that ends up under the sofa anyway. Tonic calls it a “mobile composition element.” We call it a reason to get on our knees.

Premium Means Easier Cleaning.

When choosing fabrics and floors, it’s worth comparing samples, maintenance methods, and manufacturer claims. We don’t promise materials that are resistant to everything. Especially not to a dog who sees a pillow as a personal demolition project.

The best detail in this living room? No element requires constant explaining: don’t touch that, don’t go there, don’t lie here. A good home leaves room for life. Even if that life is currently snoring.
